So yesterday the power was out from 8AM to 3PM. The electric company had sent out a postcard telling us about it. But naturally I forgot about it.
My mac has had HD issues for quite awhile now.. it was fine when restarting usually, but shutting down was out of the question. I tried all of the troubleshooting tips. Nothing would fix my issues.
So yesterday it was shutdown all day..I knew it would probably be the end.
So when the power came back on.. I tried to get him up and running and tried everything - there was even a lot of trouble just starting up from the install disk.
So, I tried my last resort. I zeroed out the HD and completely fresh installed tiger. (luckily I saved most of the updates to disk from the last time.)
I read that that zeroing the HD will block out bad blocks, if this doesn't work I guess I will have to install a new HD. I do have my external with everything I had backed up, but I can't boot from it because it's not firewire. (nobody told me about the firewire thing..lol!!)
It makes me wonder if there's a usb to firewire adapter or something?
The good thing is I got my working flash player back! LOL I won't be upgrading that again until I absolutely must. I have have to run permissions and check the disk for errors again.
Other than that I shall be saving my pennies for a new mac or maybe slightly used. A mini maybe.... I have everything I need for a mini.. I just need a display..but I can use any TV for that.
ah well, maybe this will work and I won't have to worry about it for awhile.

I'll cross my apples for ya :)
USB to firewire adapters are over $100, Shana. And I do not know for sure that you can use it for what you are looking to use it for.
Does this help you at all? I think you can get a new HD for a bit over $100 - might not be a terrrible option...
